As a true Welsh rugby fanatic its only right that I comment on the first weekend of the 2010 Six Nations.
Sadly there were no surprises from the first three games.
The opener saw Ireland win over the visiting Italian team. The performance lacked the flair of there great Grand slam performance last year but the result was comprehensive at 23 : 8.
The main event for the weekend was a long awaited encounter between Wales and England, before the game it was any ones game based on the autumn tests, maybe England slight favorites. The game was evenly fought and could have gone either way, the pivotal moment was when Alun-Wyn Jones made a stupid play tripping Dylan Hartley during a break. This total lack of discipline earned him 10 mins in the sin bin. England took full advantage scoring two tries and gaining 17 points while he was on the side. Wales could never get back after this, they did get some great momentum after a few subs in the second half scoring a try to put them close. Unfortunately England replied quickly effectively taking it out of Wales' hands. Not a great game but a reasonable fair result. Final score 30 : 17.
Sunday saw the opening game for France visiting Scotland, Scotland were put on their back foot with two well executed tries from Mathieu Bastareaud. They never really got into the game after that with six points evenly shared in the second half. Final score 9 : 18.
Next weeks sees two possibly pivotal games with the possibility of the championship decider between Ireland in France and what should be a close fought battle between Scotland and Wales in Cardiff for a much needed win.

Oooohhhh, Scotland vs Wales? Now that's a game I'd love to watch, not because I ever watch rugby or know much of anything about it, but because those are two places I love!
